Making Gifts
Kids had fun making "breakfast trays" and lamps at the SEEDS' Art Lab: Making Gifts class in December.
Ceramic Scholar
The SEEDS Scholar-in-Residence program strives to diversify the educational experiences of preschool through sixth grade students at Anneliese Schools in Laguna Beach, California by exposing them to artists, academicians, scientists and all manner of creative specialists who will share their expertise through presentations or workshops for a period of time.
This program offers scholars time and space away from their usual environment and obligations and allows them time of reflection, research, presentation or production. By allowing the scholar to be exposed to a new environment and new people, SEEDS intends that the experience will allow the scholar to achieve professional and personal growth. At the conclusion of the residency, Anneliese Schools will host an exhibition and reception for the scholar to present the completed project to the students’ families and friends.
Ceramic Tile Mural
Julie Bagish, Ceramic Artist
January-March, 2016
Grades: 3rd, 4th; Willowbrook
Artist Julie Bagish will work with Anneliese students to create a “Wall of Gratitude” that will be installed on the wall behind the stadium seating in the garden. The project will be a landscape mural made of individual “gratitude” tiles and will incorporate ceramic sea life. The students will be asked, “How do you feel when you see the ocean or garden?” and the mural can reflect that, in addition to other things they are grateful for. The goal is for the project to be a reflection of the soul of Anneliese Schools and the surrounding environment. Students will work cooperatively, as a group, to set this collage mosaic mural into the space. The students will learn how to create 3D textured clay tiles using cookie cutters and hand-cutting; how to glaze tile with brushes, fingers, sponges or dipping; how to layout the design and place tiles in thinset; use grout and glass beads to finish the project. The major lesson, besides learning clay and tile techniques, is how to come together and work on a communal project. Learn more about Julie at julspottery.com.

The Anneliese Garden is Certified!
It's official - our beautiful organic garden at the Willowbrook Campus is now a Certified Producer of Orange County. This means that we are recognized as legitimate growers of produce and can sell our fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs at any Certified Farmer's Market here in Orange County! Our new certificate also opens the doors to partnering with local restaurants to supply them with specialty menu items. Very exciting news!
